VS Code QuickStart for IRIS

Topic:

VS Code QuickStart for IRIS which shows how to connect to a server, sync code, edit, compile, and debug preferably within 15 minutes

Learning Objectives:

  • Install the InterSystems ObjectScript Extension Pack in VS Code and verify it’s working

  • Connect VS Code to an IRIS instance and pull a small sample project (or create one)

  • Make a code change, compile it from VS Code, and confirm it ran correctly

  • Set a breakpoint and step through code in the debugger (so user can see what’s happening in real time)

Target audience

  • devs new to intersystems tech coming from modern IDE workflows

Why

Most devs new to InterSystems tech don’t quit because IRIS is hard, they quit because the setup feels unfamiliar. If we can get someone to a "wow, I can edit and debug this like any other project" moment quickly, everything else becomes way easier.
