Include bar code/QR code recognition as a standard function

Zen reports, InterSystem Reports, and IRIS all have ways to generate bar codes and/or QR codes and put them on documents, but there is nothing to read them. Reading them relies on 3rd part packages and sometimes specialized hardware, depending on the implementation.

If we had a QR code reader or bar code reader package:

  • We could create our own API that could read them from an image or document allowing us to better leverage the ability to create them and integrate more tightly with our InterSystems development

  • We would not have to worry about choosing and integrating with another software package

  • We could set ourselves up to use any device with a camera, which would eliminate extra hardware since most of us already have at least a phone with a camera

This would especially be appreciated by customers interested in the new supply chain software, where the ability to scan pallet labels is very valuable.

    We don't have plans to build this in to the platform but it makes sense to integrate with bar code reading software, like this https://orcascan.com/
