Studio is a focused no-nonsense COS/CSP code editor.
Although I like VS Code a lot for other programming languages, I find it overkill to just edit IRIS classes and routines.
I also like the idea of a dedicated editor: for instance I use PyCharm for Python.

I think the question of which IDE is overkill for a certain task is probably very subjective and based on which one you have more experience with. I like using PyCharm for writing Python too, but we are not able to officially offer the level of support we demand of ourselves on multiple IDEs. However, this shouldn't completely stop you from using Studio or Pycharm sometimes.
